This is how I wish someone had explained manifestation to me 15 years ago. I've known about manifestation for 15 or 16 years now, and if someone had broken it down like this from the very beginning, it would have saved me so much time and effort. Because manifestation is fast. It's supposed to take no time at all. Once you master what I'm about to explain, you'll be able to manifest with absolutely no time delay.
The first thing you need to understand is that manifestation all starts in the mind. That's exactly why it can be immediate. The faster you can change your mind, the faster you can change your life, because your mind is in full control of the reality you experience.
Emotions Are Energy, and You're Always Emitting Them
You are always feeling emotions. Every human is constantly emitting emotions, and emotions, frequencies, and vibes are all interchangeable words, because emotions are simply energy. When you feel an emotion, you're emitting a frequency. That's what people really mean when they say "I like your vibe." They like the calm, confident, joyful energy you're putting out. And when someone says they're getting "bad vibes," they're picking up on fear-based energy.
Love or Fear: The Only Two Buckets of Emotion
There are infinite emotions you can feel, but every single one falls into one of two buckets: love or fear. We often call them good and bad vibes, but the more useful lens is love versus fear.
Every fear-based emotion, like anger, jealousy, or hatred, comes down to fear at its core. Jealousy is the fear of not having enough, a feeling of lack. Hatred is really about fearing the control someone has over you. Meanwhile, every love-based emotion, like compassion, happiness, excitement, and gratitude, stems from a sense of abundance, the belief that there's more than enough to go around for you and everyone else. So when someone talks about a "lack mindset," what they really mean is a mind operating from fear instead of love and abundance.
The Half of the Cycle Most People Understand
Here's the sequence most people already know. Your feelings turn into your thoughts, your thoughts turn into your actions and choices, and your actions turn into your results. Fear-based feelings eventually produce fear-based results, and love-based feelings produce results rooted in happiness and abundance. Then the cycle loops. If you never interrupt it, it keeps spiraling in whatever direction it's already going.
This is why people say "change your vibe, change your life." It's true, but it's only half the picture. If it were that simple, we could just switch our emotions on and off. We can't, because for most people, emotions control us, not the other way around. Thoughts, feelings, and even actions are genuinely hard to control, and that's exactly where most people get stuck.
The Full Manifestation Cycle
Here is the missing key. The complete cycle has five steps, in this order: your focus, your beliefs, your feelings, your thoughts, and finally your actions, which lead to your results.
Most people try to change their results by starting with their actions. They join the gym, sign up for every program, and say a thousand affirmations a day. Logically that makes sense, since actions lead most directly to results. But it's why people get stuck. When you start with actions, four other steps in the cycle interrupt you. Your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and focus will fight you, and the odds of beating all four with willpower alone are slim. That's why the gym habit fades after two months and the affirmations feel silly when you don't believe them.
The easiest way to break the cycle is to start at the very beginning, with your focus. When I learned this, manifestation became so much easier. I used to be the person starting with actions, saying a thousand affirmations, scripting every night, signing up for everything, all while ignoring the rest of the cycle, because addressing it meant facing beliefs and feelings I didn't want to look at. That deeper work is shadow work: healing the parts of you that once kept you safe but are now holding you back.
Why Focus Changes Everything: The Reticular Activating System
Your focus shapes your entire reality, and there's neuroscience behind it. Your brain has a reticular activating system, a filter that decides which of the endless bits of information around you actually get through. There's far too much to take in all at once, so this system selects what it thinks is important based on what you focus on and believe.
If your reticular activating system is tuned to look for evidence that you're unlucky, unloved, or broke, that's exactly what it will find and use to validate your beliefs. Everyone says to start with your belief system, and beliefs matter, but no one explains that your beliefs are formed through your focus. Your focus feeds your beliefs. So even if you currently believe you're unlucky, you can start focusing on the prosperity and abundance of others, and that new focus will begin reshaping your beliefs. Surround yourself with people who are loved, intelligent, and abundant, and you naturally start to inherit their belief systems, because your filter is now picking up information it used to reject.
Why affirmations alone often fail
This is also why affirmations don't work when you don't believe them. If you look in the mirror saying "I am beautiful" while thinking the opposite, the words won't land. If anything it can feel worse, because your words and your beliefs are so mismatched that you feel silly for trying. The thing that actually shatters an old belief system is your focus, and focus is the easiest thing to change. You simply decide what to look for. If you want love, decide to actively look for examples of healthy love, confidence, and self-love in the world.
Proof That Focus Instantly Shifts Your Reality
Think of the classic psychology image that can look like either two faces or a vase. If you focus on the white, you see two faces. If you focus on the black negative space, you see a vase. The picture never changes. Your focus does. That's how two people can look at the same thing and experience two completely different realities.
The viral black-and-blue versus white-and-gold dress works the same way. The dress didn't change, yet half the world saw one thing and half saw another. I used to see it as black and blue until I saw it in different lighting, and once I trained my focus to look for the white and gold, I could suddenly see it. I didn't buy a course or repeat affirmations. I simply shifted my focus. This is exactly how manifestation works: change your focus and everything else can shift with no effort.
To be clear, I'm not downplaying courses, affirmations, or rituals. I use them myself. But I use them in support of my focus, not as a crutch to replace it. Get your focus right first, so you're not pouring energy into the wrong things.
How to Change Your Focus: Decide and Saturate
To change your focus, you only need to decide, then saturate your mind with things that align with it. If I wanted to become a millionaire, I'd surround myself with content about millionaires: films about founders, biographies of people who came from less than me and made it out with more, and music that empowers me. You decide to focus on abundance, then go looking for evidence of it everywhere, and you refuse to feed the noise that contradicts it.
This is the real reason people say to stop watching the news. Beyond staying informed, constant fear-based content changes how you see the world. When my feed filled up with distressing political content, I engaged emotionally, saw more of it, and started losing faith in humanity, seeing people as selfish and greedy, which isn't what I actually want to believe. So I recurated my feed to only consume examples of love, hope, progress, and compassion, and removed anything that didn't align. Your attention is like water. You water the parts of your life you want to grow, so pour it only where you want expansion.
Try the white Jeep Wrangler test
Here's a fun way to prove this to yourself. Every morning when you wake up and every night before bed, look at a picture of a white Jeep Wrangler for 60 seconds, for three days in a row. I promise that within those three days you'll spot a white Jeep Wrangler in the real world, on TV or driving past you. That's your focus overriding every other step and taking you straight to a result.
Actions Are the Result, Not the Cause
Once your focus shifts, your beliefs shift, then your feelings, then your thoughts, and finally your actions all follow naturally. Actions aren't what change your results. Actions are the byproduct of changing everything else in your mind. The person who sticks with the gym isn't just more disciplined. Their focus and identity are already on fitness, so going becomes effortless and even joyful. If you want to change your actions, don't start with the actions. Change your focus and your beliefs, and the actions take care of themselves.
My Money Story
Money was one of the hardest things for me to manifest because of deep negative beliefs. I was an actress, and despite being a lead on TV shows and in films, the money was small, so I identified as a "broke actress." Combined with limiting beliefs from how I was raised, I couldn't imagine ever having real wealth.
What finally broke the cycle wasn't a new business or career move. It was my focus. I started surrounding myself with people who had more money and healthier beliefs around it, and I saw people who I knew were no smarter or harder-working than me, some from less privileged backgrounds, making far more. Their focus and beliefs were simply different, and being around them, I adopted those beliefs too. Three years ago I was 50 to 60 thousand dollars in debt from a legal battle, living in survival mode off borrowed money. Today I regularly make tens of thousands of dollars in a day, and I recently broke my record with $50,000 in a single day. Three years ago that same number was my debt. Changing the cycle changed everything.
Decide What You Want, Then Multiply It by 10
To change your focus, you have to actually know what you want, and this is where many people stall. They say they want a better life but have never decided what "better" means to them, so they borrow other people's dreams. Borrowed dreams should never be your focus. Take real time to ask yourself what your dream life looks like, and don't limit it.
The other trap is dreaming too small. I once had a sticky note on my fridge that read $10,000 a month from acting and investing, because at the time, working odd jobs and buried in debt, I couldn't fathom more. Today I make that in a single day. I kept that note as a reminder to stop dreaming small. Your belief system will try to keep your focus small to keep you safe, but remember, your focus is supposed to lead your beliefs, not the other way around.
So here's my rule of thumb: whatever you desire, multiply it by 10. As humans, we instinctively shrink our dreams to stay safe, so times it by 10 to correct for that. You don't have to believe it's possible. Your only job is to decide what to focus on, and the cycle handles the rest. Honestly, looking at how far things have come, I could have multiplied mine by 30. So dream bigger than feels comfortable, decide clearly, and let your focus lead the way.
